Pigs In A Blanket

A lot has happened over the past couple of days so I will try to summarize briefly for you all!

On Friday I went to the new apartment to sign all the paperwork and get everything in order. It was definitely a relief to finally find a place that wasn't 1) too expensive 2) in an inconvenient area 3) vide (empty) 4) with other jeunes (youngin's). Camille (the girl who I was replacing) invited me back there for dinner and her moving out party (the word for which I keep forgetting- French readers this is your cue to remind me ). After some delicious food, a bunch of Camille's friends came over to get the party started. We started to discuss popular American TV series, how to pronounce certain names, and later translation. The French friends thought it was absolutely hilarious that we call those delicious little appetizers "couchons dans les couvertures." After a while we headed down to the péniches on the Rhône to drink "un petit coup." Now a péniche is almost like a boat house, yet what differs here in Lyon is that they turn into clubs at night. Very expensive, regulars-only clubs. There is seating outside for drinks and then around midnight/one in the morning, they stack up the chairs and you move inside to dance. Dancing is another issue here in France....because the music is quite a melange of tunes. They love their man David Guetta as well as Michael Jackson...and then it's ride in the time machine for some slow, very random '90's songs.  My goal to learn how to DJ has jumped up the list after hearing, "I'm Blue, Da ba de da ba da."

Friday night I also experience my very first Velo'v ride (click on link to see what I'm talking about). Lyon (and I believe Paris) provides rent a bike stations throughout the city which is an excellent idea considering all public transportation (sauf taxis) end at midnight. Why? Not really sure...besides the fact that there are early morning dance clubs/discotheques that run till 7 am.

Saturday, I went to the marché in Vénniseux with the Ronzière family. There is literally anything and everything there for you to buy (clothing, food, office supplies, Korans, shoes, etc). This suburban town is very ethnic and hence there are tons of Arabic speaking families. I'd like to say I practice some of the language I learned the past year at school, but I didn't.  I've was told that it is the cheapest market in the area; you could definitely tell since the world was there that morning.

Saturday night I went with Baptiste and Co. to play some laser tag. The best thing about the night? I lost both games (300 points and then -700). Worst part? I fell straight on my arse the first five minutes and gave away our team's position. What else can I say about a fun, spontaneous night? "Is it so hard to tell the truth, say that we just are the best."-Baptiste.

Finally, yesterday I moved to the new apartment :) Woohoo!

More on the way about that tomorrow! Until then, good night and good luck with the rest of your Monday!
